So after reading this review of the iphone in the wall street journal, I’ve found a few… very few places where the ipod has an advantage over my toshiba w52t cell phone.
- the display is a little larger – mine is 3 inches compared with the iphone’s 3.5
- the touch pad style – if this is easier to use, it could be an advantage, but my phone allows you to create the kind of start page you want, so you can chose the features you often use to be easily accessible from the main screen
- The bigger internal memory – like I said in the previous post, the phone I had before had a 4GB hard drive (bought it 2 years ago), but my current one only has 1GB. With the use of the micro SD cards, I find that I don’t really need 4 GB
Some places that my phone is better (that I didn’t know about until reading the WSJ article):
- I can buy music through AU (my phone service provider) using cell phone OR computer, I can also use music bought through itunes in the phone.
- It was much cheaper… I bought this phone for about $100, and no special service plans or obligations
- Video Recording – which the iphone does not have
- Much better camera resolution
- Monthly plan is much much cheaper starting at about $20
- Of course being able to connect the phone to a projector and show power point presentations, videos, pictures, excel documents, etc kind of kicks some assssss

Jay,
Nice blog. I don’t see where you can get that phone in the US. In fact, I can’t find any toshiba mobile phones. It looks like a reasonable competitor to iPhone, though
It takes IC chips so maybe people can use them in the US. I think you can set the menus to English, but I’m not sure because I’m used to Japanese.
